It's never been more important to know where your New Hampshire elected officials stand on reproductive rights. The overturning of Roe v. Wade means the future of abortion access now depends upon state legislatures across the country.
Without federal constitutional protections for abortion rights, who we elect to state office is more important than ever. New Hampshire's House of Representatives will either continue attacks on reproductive health care - or serve as a critical backstop.
In 2021/2022 there were nine key votes on six critical reproductive rights bills, which either passed the full House or failed by a slim margin, including New Hampshire's 24-week abortion ban, a failed effort to allow health care workers to deny Granite Stater’s contraception based on religious beliefs, and the bill to remove New Hampshire's patient safety zone law.
Of Derry’s current contingent State Representatives:
· 6 tried to advance a bill to ban abortion health care before most pregnancies are even detected
· 7 voted to force women to carry and deliver a baby that could not live outside the womb
· 9 voted to repeal the safety zones around reproductive health care facilities putting people seeking care in danger of abuse and privacy violations.
The Democrat Candidates campaigning for State Representative understand that reproductive health care is sensitive and personal and we strongly support an individual’s right to make decisions about their own bodies without interference from the government. We will strongly oppose pregnancy mandates and will fight to enshrine the right to abortion care and contraception in law.
